I help people navigate current rough waters, determine how to get to a new place literally or deep inside, calm the waters inside, care for yourself on all levels, and much more. I listen, I reflect, I honor, I offer ways to approach things differently, I help you be you and be true to yourself.
I don’t do therapy/counseling, or advice-giving (unless directly asked, and then remind people they are their best authority). There is a bit of overlap, of course – my approach and counseling skills involve attentive listening, processes for change, empathy, ‘training wheels’ for new skills, a guiding hand on unchartered paths, and more. I share my knowledge and suggest options, but I don’t tell you what to do because the point is for you to trust you to know what’s best for you (and, I help you get there if you don’t right now).
I help you with/toward your goals and dreams: It’s your journey, and I am honored to walk with you on it, work through obstacles, celebrate successes, and help you in every way I can. I also provide a kind, safe, and affirming space for you to do some emotional healing as you work on habit change, self-reinvention, and the never-straight-line to goals and dreams; our old stuff always comes up, so let’s look at it honestly, vulnerably, and find a way to love it and tell it to move on to make room for the real you inside and out. I have a master’s in counseling, and compassionately witness that we all have pain, trauma, and grief that need expression in order to shift and heal.
We all benefit from this kind of help – if you are of the thought that “I should be able to do this myself, I’d be embarrassed to ask for help” – I will gently ask you to stop ‘should-ing’ on yourself. (Yes, sounds remarkably like ‘sh*tting’, doesn’t it <wink>.) The most successful people on the planet have help/coaches, no matter what they do or who they are – or how you define success. These people are great for us because they’re all FOR us. Our families and friends love us and can certainly help us with a lot of things, but they can be blinded by that love, or have overt and/or covert agendas, and sometimes keep you in a box or be threatened by the changes you are seeking. An employer has a very specific agenda for you, and while they can be very helpful, they operate through the filter of the work and business and outcomes (and profit). A helper-coach is a positive-neutral presence whose only objective is to help you accomplish what you set out to do.
I have helped people with a wide and deep variety of issues around personal and professional development: Self-esteem and empowerment; assertiveness and improved communication (and letting go of passive and passive-aggressiveness); grief; life transitions of all kinds; career issues and changes; health and wellness issues/improving habits; overweight help and body/self-love and compassion; ridding ourselves of fear, shame and negative thinking; personal space; organization and decluttering (I LOVE this whole area SO much as we transform on the inside while we transform our surroundings); relationships; creativity; and more.
I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about whether working with me is right for you, and what you can expect. We will talk about your expectations and you get to ask me all you need to in order to decide about moving forward together toward the changes you’re seeking.
RATES
My single session, 1-hour rate is $100.
I offer multiple sessions at a discount (which requires prepayment in full). People typically have chosen between 4 and 12, with an average of 6. For challenging habit change work, a minimum of 12 has been found to be most effective.
If things are tough for you financially, because I believe money shouldn’t be a barrier I also offer you to pay what you are able to. (You decide the rate, I accept.)
